HAMILTON - A Hamilton man was stabbed four times during a confrontation on Wednesday night, Jan. 2.

Hamilton Police Department Investigations Supervisor Scotty Chandler said that at roughly 7:30 p.m., Carl Markham, 63, was stabbed four times during an altercation with a suspect at his son’s, Benny Markham, residence on County Highway 55.

According to Chandler, Markham was stabbed both on his front and back. No additional information was available about the nature of his wounds.

Markham was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss., where he underwent surgery. Chandler said that Markham is expected to make a full recovery.

Tyler Shane Green, 22, Hamilton, was arrested in connection with the stabbing and is being held at the Marion County Jail in Hamilton, where he faces charges for attempted murder and first-degree assault.

Following a hearing on Thursday, Jan. 3, Green’s bond was set at $150,000.

Markham was with his grandchildren at his son’s residence. Chandler said that Green lived in one of two campers parked on Benny Markham’s Highway 55 property.

According to the investigator, there was a confrontation  between Markham and Green outside the residence when Markham was assaulted.

The origin of the conflict remains unclear. However, Chandler did say that a window at the house was broken.

While Markham and Green were in a physical altercation, Chandler said that Markham’s minor grandson was able to restrain Green while 9-1-1 was called and police arrived.

Chandler said that law enforcement officials from the Hamilton Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Department, and the Hamilton Fire Department and Regional Paramedical Services all responded.

When Green was arrested, police recovered two knifes from the scene. Chandler said that the knife used to stab Markham was a folding knife.

(When a defendant is charged with a crime, the charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.)
